I would love to be able to print my own stencils for paintings and whatnot and I thought that would be a good way to do it. We have a 54 inch printer here, but it doesn’t print paper, it only prints vinyl. So I go to Google, thinking “How much can a 24” x 36” printer be? Maybe a few hundred dollars?”. Nope. The cheapest one I found was $1000 for a 24” x 36. One. Thousand. Dollars. Are you shitting me? I can get a crappy little 8.5” x 11” for $100 these day. Does the price gap really extend that much? 10 times the price for 3 times the size?
This is one of those things that kind of just popped into my head today, it’s not something I’ve been planning for months or anything. It was a quick 5 minute daydream I had and it was crushed immediately. I would have loved to have one because at the moment, I get my stencils printed out a FedEx Office. It usually costs me in and around $20 everytime, and they can’t print anything large on anything but regular weight paper. I could print whenever I want from the comfort of my home, use whatever weight of paper I’d like to use, and it probably would end up being cheaper per print than going to FedEx.
But $1000 I just can’t do, realistically. Maybe if people started buying my art, I could justify it, but at the moment it’s just a dream of someday.
