Keith Haring’s “Crack is Wack” handball court mural was painted in 1986 as a reaction to the growing crack-cocaine epidemic in NYC. Originally created with out the city’s permission, the mural was immediately put under the protection and jurisdiction of the City Department of Parks, which is why it still exists. (Located at 128th Street and 2nd Avenue.)
